Happy Hill is a variety that Masanobu Fukuoka, a natural farming pioneer, developed by crossing Burmese rice with Japanese heavy-headed rice varieties. He repeatedly selected and stabilized it over many years under the strict conditions of natural farming.

Mr. Fukuoka's goal was to create a resilient rice that grows solely on the power of nature.
Happy Hill's characteristics include its resistance to disease even without fertilizer or pesticides, its ability to grow as dry-land rice in fields, and its high yield with many ears per plant.

We first cultivated this variety using seeds purchased from Noguchi Seed Research Institute in 2022 and have continued to grow it until last year. No pesticides have been used at all.

[Important Notes]
The paddy rice being offered this time was not specifically cultivated for seed paddy.
It has not been sorted or disinfected. We recommend that you sort it by water flotation before planting.
Drying was done mechanically.
Germination rate has not been tested.
Since 2023, we have cultivated seedlings from paddy rice that sank after water flotation (as shown in the photo) under the same conditions as this offering, and have successfully harvested delicious rice.

We estimate that 10-20% of the paddy rice you receive will float during water flotation. We will include extra to compensate, but please refrain from purchasing if you require consistent quality.
Happy Hill is a late-maturing variety. As harvest occurs from late October to November, it is not suitable for cold regions such as Tohoku and Hokkaido.

We cultivate this rice in paddy fields, but a neighbor successfully grew and harvested it in their field last year. They reported growing seedlings and transplanting them.
